España confirma 23 posibles casos de viruela del Mono

En la comunidad de Madrid se han detectado 23 posibles casos de infección por viruela del mono en la región, por lo que el Ministerio de Sanidad, junto con los gobiernos regionales, han activado la alerta sanitaria, mientras se realizan investigaciones en coordinación con el Centro Nacional de Microbiología para confirmar el diagnóstico.

En general, la transmisión de la enfermedad se produce por vía respiratoria, pero por las características de los 23 casos sospechosos de infección, apunta a que ha sido por contacto con mucosas durante las relaciones sexuales, informó este miércoles la Consejería de Sanidad madrileña.

También conocida como “monkeypox”, se trata de una enfermedad muy poco frecuente que generalmente se presenta con fiebre, mialgias, adenopatías (inflamación en los ganglios) y erupción en manos y cara, similar a la varicela y se transmite a través del contacto con animales o en contacto próximo con personas infectadas o materiales contaminados.

Las personas en estudio evolucionan positivamente y se encuentran aisladas en sus domicilios, aunque se debe mantener una vigilancia estrecha ya que pueden llegar a requerir ingreso hospitalario.

Los responsables de Salud Pública están a la espera del resultado de las pruebas de laboratorio y evaluando el papel de la vacuna de la viruela para el control de la transmisión, así como el uso de antivirales de ser necesarios.

También están realizando la investigación epidemiológica a los afectados e identificando a los posibles contactos.

El pasado 15 de mayo el Reino Unido lanzó una alerta sanitaria a la Organización Mundial de la Salud, de acuerdo con el reglamento sanitario internacional, tras detectar los cuatro primeros casos en Europa.
