EEUU desclasifica el documento del atentado del 11 de septiembre

El Buró Federal de Investigaciones de Estados Unidos (FBI) desclasificó un documento relacionado con los ataques terroristas del 11 de septiembre de 2001 y el presunto apoyo del gobierno saudita, divulgaron hoy medios nacionales.El texto, que sale ahora a la luz 20 años después de los ataques, proporciona detalles del trabajo del FBI para investigar el supuesto apoyo que un funcionario consular de Arabia Saudita y de un hipotético agente de inteligencia de ese país, Omar al Bayumi, proporcionaron a dos de los secuestradores.

Sin embargo, el material de 16 páginas -con fecha de abril de 2016- contiene numerosas tachaduras y no ofrece evidencias de que Riad fuera cómplice del complot, señala la cadena CNN.

La publicación del FBI responde a una orden ejecutiva del presidente estadounidense, Joe Biden, a quien los familiares de las víctimas y sobrevivientes de los atentados le solicitaron el mes pasado nuevas informaciones respecto a lo sucedido.

Casi tres mil personas murieron el 11 de septiembre de 2001 luego de que cuatro aviones se estrellaron en diferentes puntos del país: dos contra las Torres Gemelas del World Trade Center de Nueva York; uno en el Pentágono, cerca de esta capital; y otro cerca de Shanksville, Pensilvania.

La víspera, en esos tres lugares hubo actos de homenaje a los fallecidos, a los cuales acudieron el presidente Biden y otros predecesores en el cargo como Bill Clinton, Barack Obama y George W. Bush, quien estaba en el cargo el día de la tragedia e impulsó luego la llamada guerra contra el terrorismo.
