Bruce Willis padece demencia y su estado de salud ha empeorado

El actor Bruce Willis, que se retiró el año pasado por padecer afasia, un trastorno del lenguaje, ha recibido un diagnóstico médico definitivo y padece un tipo de demencia que ha provocado que empeore su estado de salud, informó este jueves su familia.

“Aunque es doloroso, es un alivio tener por fin un diagnóstico claro: demencia frontotemporal”, reza el comunicado oficial difundido por su familia este jueves a través de la web de la Asociación de Degeneración Frontotemporal y de la cuenta de Instagram de Rummer Willis, hija mayor del actor y de la actriz Demi Moore.

La demencia frontoremporal (FTD, por su siglas en inglés) afecta al lóbulo frontal del cerebro y provoca alteraciones en la conducta, además de perjudicar al habla.

“La FTD es una enfermedad cruel. (…) Por desgracia, los problemas de comunicación son solo uno de los síntomas de la enfermedad que padece Bruce”, añade el texto atribuido a su esposa Emma Hemming Willis, su exmujer Demi Moore y a sus hijos Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel y Evelyn.

La noticia llega cas un año después de que Willis anunciara su retirada debido a un diagnóstico inicial de afasia, el cual conmocionó a sus compañeros de profesión.

Según explica la Asociación Americana del Habla y la Audición (ASHA), la afasia es considerada como un trastorno del lenguaje que está producido por una lesión cerebral y afecta al lenguaje a través de la expresión y la comprensión. Además, puede manifestarse de forma repentina.

Durante casi cuatro décadas Willis ha protagonizado numerosos éxitos empezando por “Die Hard” (1988) y sus secuelas y otros títulos como “Armageddon” (1998) o “The Sixth Sense” (2001). Ha conseguido un Globo de Oro -ha sido nominado cinco veces a esos premios- y un Emmy de tres candidaturas.

En los últimos años, había reducido sustancialmente sus proyectos. “Motherless Brooklyn” y “Glass”, ambos filmes de 2019, fueron los dos últimos proyectos de alto presupuesto en los que asumió un papel principal.
