¿Conoces el primer tren impulsado por hidrógeno?

Fue creado en Alemania y es el primer tren que alimenta sus motores eléctricos a través de pila de combustible, lo que le da la posibilidad de cargar más rápido y funcionar durante 1.000 km.

Cuando se menciona de hidrógeno, siempre se cae en el mismo lugar común decir que es muy costoso y que no es tan eficiente frente al combustible de la gasolina o la alimentación eléctrica, al menos para los vehículos livianos.

Pero la primera contamina y la segunda tiene necesidad de baterías en muy pesadas y un tiempo de recarga muy lento, así que por esas mismas razones, el transporte pesado es el más adecuado para incorporar esa tecnología en el futuro. 

Porque no tiene problemas de incorporar tanques del gas comprimido y el tiempo de recarga es tan rápido como es actualmente el que demanda llenar los tanques de gasolina.

Por esa razón, la decisión de explorar el terreno ferroviario para la aplicación de hidrógeno como combustible para los motores eléctricos, es absolutamente lógica.

En Alemania, Siemens Mobility mostró este jueves un modelo de tren llevado por hidrógeno, que han desarrollado conjuntamente al operador ferroviario Deutsche Bahn, con vistas a una primera puesta en marcha en 2024 en el transporte regional de pasajeros.

Es un tren eléctrico con sistema de alimentación de pila de combustible de hidrógeno, por lo que requiere de la instalación de grandes tanques para almacenar el gas, los cuales van alojados en el techo de los vagones, lo que permite que sean de fácil acceso, y no ocupen espacio que le quiten habitabilidad para los pasajeros.
