“Supercélulas” fabricantes de virus: la nueva teoría sobre cómo se propagan las nuevas variantes contagiosas del COVID-19

De acuerdo a un reciente investigación, las variantes altamente virulentas del coronavirus estarían evadiendo las defensas inmunológicas a partir de la creación de “supercélulas”. El trabajo publicado por Economic Timesha revelado otra idea de cómo el SARS-CoV-2 puede esquivar las barreras de los anticuerpos que se fabrican después de infectarnos con un virus o después de recibir una vacuna.

El trabajo, que aún debe ser puesto a la revisión de otros análisis, basa el trabajo en la manera como se propaga un virus dentro de un cuerpo al entrar en una célula y usarla como fábrica para crear copias de sí mismo, que luego estallan y encuentran nuevas células para infectar.

Los anticuerpos que genera el cuerpo humano actúan uniéndose al virus y esto puede impedir que se adhiera y entre en las células. Sin embargo, la investigación conocida como “estudio Sigal”, se cuestiona esta premisa, sobre la base de la posibilidad que un virus no necesite salir de la célula para propagarse a las células vecinas. En ese caso, los anticuerpos no serían efectivos para defenderse del invasor.

Los científicos trabajaron sobre esa posibilidad para el SARS-CoV-2 , que causa la COVID-19. Este coronavirus altamente infeccioso puede cambiar las células humanas, haciendo que se fusionen con dos o más células cercanas. Estas “supercélulas”, con grandes cuerpos celulares fusionados, son excelentes fábricas de virus.

La “supercélulas”, conocidas como sincitios, comparten múltiples núcleos (la parte de la célula que contiene el material genético) y abundante citoplasma (la sustancia gelatinosa que rodea el núcleo). Tener más de estos componentes en una célula gigante ayuda a que el virus se replique de manera más eficiente. Y al fusionar las células, el SARS-CoV-2 aumenta sus recursos sin estar expuesto a los anticuerpos neutralizantes que se derraman fuera de nuestras células.
