Papa Francisco muy cercano a la causa de Monseñor Romero y Rutilio Grande

El papa Francisco recibió hoy a un grupo de peregrinos salvadoreños que viajaron al Vaticano para agradecer la beatificación de los mártires Cosme Spessotto, Manuel Solórzano, Nelson Lemus y Rutilio Grande, por el que el pontífice mostró, como por San Óscar Romaro, una gran devoción.

En su discurso a los peregrinos, Francisco manifestó que estos beatos, todos asesinados por escuadrones de la muerte en el contexto de la guerra civil (1980-1992), “son un regalo inmenso, tanto para la Iglesia que peregrina en El Salvador, como para la Iglesia universal”

Agregó “que aunque las realidades del actual El Salvador no son las de los tiempos que vivieron los cuatro beatos y San Romero” hay que “aprender de ellos la llamada al compromiso, a la fidelidad, a poner la fe en Dios y el amor al hermano en primer lugar”.

Y ante ellos el papa reveló un recuerdo personal: “Yo sentí mucho la vida de estos mártires, la viví mucho, viví el conflicto de pro y contra. Y es una devoción personal”.

“A la entrada de mi estudio, tengo un pequeño cuadrito con un pedazo del alba ensangrentada de San Óscar Romero y una catequesis chiquitita de Rutilio Grande, para que me hagan recordar que siempre hay injusticias por las que hay que luchar, y ellos marcaron el camino”, señaló el papa.

El papa añadió “que el primer fruto de la muerte de los beatos fue el restablecimiento de la unidad de la Iglesia”.

“Este hecho fue destacado por san Óscar Romero en la misa exequial del padre Rutilio Grande, el 14 de marzo de 1977, cuando escribe emocionado cómo ‘el clero se apiña con su obispo’ y concluía su homilía diciendo: ‘comprendamos esta Iglesia, inspirémonos en este amor, vivamos esta fe y les aseguro que hay solución para nuestros grandes problemas’”

A los religiosos salvadoreños, el papa les pidió que como estos mártires “estén, siempre de camino hacia su pueblo para identificarse con ellos, para vivir con ellos”.

Los sacerdotes Grande, Lemus y Solórzano fueron asesinados en 1977, mientras que la muerte del religioso italiano Spessoto ocurrió en 1980 y fueron beatificados en San Salvador en enero.
