Muere Rodney Alcalá, ‘el asesino del juego de la citas’, sospechoso de matar a 130 mujeres en EE.UU.

Rodney Alcalá, conocido como el ‘asesino del juego de las citas‘ y sospechoso de matar hasta 130 mujeres, murió a los 77 años este sábado por causas naturales en un hospital del condado californiano Kings, en EE.UU., informó el Departamento de Correccionales y Rehabilitación de California (CDCR, por sus siglas en inglés).

Según el reporte, en 2010, Alcalá fue sentenciado a muerte por cinco homicidios en California ocurridos entre 1977 y 1979, incluido el de Robin Samsoe, una niña de 12 años. Más tarde, en 2012, las autoridades lo extraditaron a Nueva York, donde fue condenado a 25 años de prisión tras declararse culpable de dos homicidios en ese estado.

El alias de Alcalá, un fotógrafo aficionado, se debe a su aparición en el popular programa de televisión ‘El juego de las citas’ (‘The Dating Game’, en inglés) en 1978. Para entonces ya habría matado a cuatro mujeres, sin que el público lo supiera. Durante el episodio del programa de juegos, el asesino era un hombre soltero que ganó una cita con la concursante Cheryl Bradshaw. Sin embargo, poco después, la mujer sintió que algo andaba mal con el sujeto y decidió no continuar con la reunión.

A fines de la década de 1970, se creía que Alcalá había matado al menos a siete personas. Su primer cargo por asesinato, el secuestro de Samsoe en el condado de Orange, enfrentó solo un año después de que se emitiera el episodio de ‘El juego de las citas’.

Las autoridades creen que Alcala pudo haber tenido hasta 130 víctimas en la década de 1970, con asesinatos registrados en Los Ángeles, la bahía de San Francisco, Seattle, Nuevo Hampshire y Arizona, antes de ser detenido y encarcelado en 1979, fecha desde la que permanecía en prisión.
