Ministra británica culpa a Trump por ataque al Capitolio

La retórica incendiaria de Donald Trump, que se negó a reconocer su derrota en las elecciones presidenciales y ha estado aireando durante meses la tesis del presunto fraude electoral, condujo directamente a la “terrible” violencia que este miércoles estalló en el Capitolio durante la sesión conjunta de las cámaras del Congreso, según lo declaró este jueves la ministra de Interior del Reino Unido, Priti Patel.

En declaraciones para el programa de noticias matutino ‘Breakfast’ de la BBC, la ministra aseveró que los acontecimientos de la última noche fueron “más horribles que lo que las palabras pueden expresar” y recalcó que el presidente republicano no solo no logró moderar la escalada de brutalidad, sino que la alimentó.

“Sus comentarios llevaron directamente a la violencia, y hasta ahora no ha podido condenar esa violencia y eso es completamente incorrecto”, se lamentó Patel.

La ministra británica instó al mandatario estadounidense a condenar las acciones de sus simpatizantes, que irrumpieron en el edificio del Capitolio para intentar revertir la derrota electoral de los republicanos, forzando la evacuación de los legisladores y retrasando varias horas la certificación de la victoria del demócrata Joe Biden.

Por su parte, el primer ministro del Reino Unido, Boris Johnson, calificó de “vergonzosos” los violentos incidentes en Washington D.C., que obligaron a la movilización de la Guardia Nacional y al establecimiento de un toque de queda en el Distrito de Columbia.

Las palabras de Johnson y de Patel representan un cambio abrupto en el tono del Gobierno británico, que ha sido un aliado cercano de Estados Unidos y solía evitar las críticas hacia Trump.
