La Armada de EE.UU. crea una agrupación especial de supercicie para luchar contra submarinos rusos

El nuevo grupo estará integrado por varios destructores de la clase Arleigh Burke y contará con tripulaciones experimentadas en guerra antisubmarina.

La Armada de EE.UU. ha formado un grupo de destructores para “contrarrestar la amenaza” de submarinos rusos en la costa este del país.

La agrupación, llamada Greyhound (galgo, en español), incluye varios destructores que participarán en operaciones y ejercicios en el Atlántico, según el Instituto Naval de Estados Unidos (USNI).

El grupo está llamado a cumplir “una amplia gama de misiones, incluido el seguimiento de la actividad submarina de Rusia en el Atlántico y la defensa de nuestro país”, declaró este lunes el contralmirante Brendan McLain, comandante de las fuerzas de superficie, durante una ceremonia a bordo de una estas naves.

McLain destacó que su país se enfrenta a una “nueva era” de amenazas estratégicas, haciendo hincapié en las naciones que continúan desarrollando sus capacidades submarinas en la región, recoge USNI News.

El nuevo grupo estará integrado por destructores de la clase Arleigh Burke, con tripulaciones experimentadas, incluidos el USS Donald Cook y el USS Thomas Hudner. El USS The Sullivans debería unirse a ellos a principios de 2022 y posteriormentee el USS Thomas Hudner será remplazado por otras dos naves de guerra.

Se prevé que los buques de la agrupación antisubmarina establezcan sus bases en Mayport, Florida, y Norfolk, Virginia.
