“Hoy es un día histórico”: India empieza a administrar la vacuna Sputnik V

En la India, el segundo país más golpeado por el covid-19 después de Estados Unidos, se administró este viernes la primera dosis de la vacuna Sputnik V. El Fondo Ruso de Inversión Directa (RDIF, en inglés) ha anunciado el inicio del proceso de vacunación con el medicamento ruso en el país.

El primer lote de Sputnik V llegó a la India el 1 de mayo, luego de ser autorizado por el organismo regulador nacional el 12 de abril. Hoy se da inicio al proceso de vacunación que tendrá lugar en la ciudad de Hyderabad, al sureste del país.

Sputnik V se consolida como la primera vacuna de fabricación extranjera utilizada en ese país y empezará a formar parte de la campaña de vacunación más grande del mundo, que se llevará a cabo en la India.

Kirill Dmitriev, director general del RDIF, anunció que “hoy es un día histórico para la India y Rusia, ya que es la primera vez que se empieza a administrar la vacuna Sputnik V en la India”.

Y añadió que la India se convertirá en el principal centro de producción de Sputnik V, con el objetivo de producir más de 850 millones de dosis al año.

“Rusia está junto a la India en esta lucha”, expresó el alto funcionario y aseguró que aumentarán los envíos de Sputnik V a la India, además se espera que pronto se introduzca la nueva variante Sputnik light en ese país.

Hasta la fecha, Sputnik V está registrada en 65 países, que suman una población total de más de 3.200 millones de personas, y ocupa el segundo lugar entre las vacunas contra el coronavirus a nivel mundial en términos de número de aprobaciones emitidas por los reguladores gubernamentales.

En las últimas semanas, la situación de covid-19 en la India ha empeorado, sólo el jueves, el país registró 343.144 nuevos contagios, lo que hace que la cifra total supere los 24 millones.
