Estados Unidos impondrá restricciones de visas a 93 personas por socavar la democracia en Nicaragua

El secretario de Estado de EE.UU., Antony Blinken, anunció este martes que Estados Unidos impondrá restricciones de visa a “93 individuos que se cree han socavado la democracia” en Nicaragua “tras la ilegítima reelección de Daniel Ortega en noviembre de 2021, incluyendo jueces, fiscales, miembros de la Asamblea Nacional y funcionarios del Ministerio del Interior”.

“Los jueces y fiscales alineados con el régimen comparten la complicidad en los esfuerzos del régimen Ortega-Murillo para socavar la democracia a través de su participación en los juicios y condenas de líderes de la oposición, defensores de los derechos humanos, líderes del sector privado y defensores de estudiantes”, dijo el secretario Blinken.

Los miembros de la Asamblea Nacional y los funcionarios del Ministerio permitieron que el régimen de Ortega-Murillo reforzara su control autoritario sobre los ciudadanos y las instituciones nicaragüenses utilizando leyes represivas para despojar a más de 400 ONG y a una docena de universidades de su estatus legal.

El alto diplomático estadounidense dijo que el régimen de Ortega-Murillo “mantiene a más de 180 presos políticos, y muchos de ellos sufren la falta de alimentos adecuados, de atención médica apropiada e incluso de luz solar.
