Activistas indígenas vandalizan la estatua de un expresidente de EE.UU. situada frente a la Casa Blanca

Miles de personas se manifestaron este lunes para exigir al actual mandatario, Joe Biden, que "comience una transición justa de la industria extractiva de combustibles fósiles".

Un grupo de activistas de la Red Ambiental Indígena (IEN, por sus siglas en inglés) este lunes vandalizó la estatua de Andrew Jackson que fue presidente de EE.UU. entre 1829 y 1837— situada frente a la Casa Blanca, según se aprecia en una fotografía difundida por el organismo en su cuenta de Twitter.  

“¡La estatua de Andrew Jackson en la Casa Blanca ha sido redecorada!”, reza el mensaje recordando que esta jornada se celebra el Día de los Pueblos Indígenas. “La colonización no ha terminado. ¡Los pueblos indígenas todavía luchan contra la violencia de los colonos a causa de la extracción de carbón de la Isla Tortuga [nombre que a veces utilizan los pueblos indígenas de América del Norte para referirse a la Tierra]”, añade.

“A pie de la estatua estaba escrito ‘espéranos’ con huellas de manos salpicadas de sangre para representar la epidemia de mujeres indígenas desparecidas y asesinadas” durante el Gobierno del “presidente genocida”, explicó paralelamente la IEN en un comunicado para comentar la acción.

“No tenemos miedo”

Asimismo, la organización indica que este lunes miles de personas se manifestaron frente al edificio gubernamental para exigir al actual mandatario, Joe Biden, que “tome medidas audaces y comience una transición justa de la industria extractiva de combustibles fósiles”.

“Nuestra gente es más vieja que la idea de los Estados Unidos de América”, continúa el texto. “Somos los administradores originales de esta tierra y continuaremos luchando por el conocimiento natural y espiritual de nuestra madre que sostiene nuestras formas de vida”, agrega.

En este sentido, asegura que son los nietos de aquellos que han sobrevivido a sus escuelas residenciales, oleoductos, minas, reservas, “asimilación forzada y genocidio”. “No tenemos miedo. Otro mundo es posible, que caigan todos los colonizadores”, subrayaron.
