El 8 de septiembre se reconoce el Día Internacional de la Alfabetización, este año pondrá de relieve los desafíos y las oportunidades en la promoción de la alfabetización en la era digital, unos 750 millones de adultos y 264 millones de niños no alfabetizados carecen aún de competencias básicas en lectoescritura.
En El Salvador El Ministerio de Educación (MINED), a través del Programa Nacional de Alfabetización, logró una reducción del 7.83 % en el índice de analfabetismo, (pasando del 17.97 % al 10.14 %), que significa la alfabetización de 297 mil 353 personas del 2008 al 2016, actualmente de cada 100 salvadoreños 10 aun no saben leer ni escribir.
Este año, el Día Internacional de la Alfabetización (8 de septiembre), se celebrará en todo el mundo bajo el lema de “La alfabetización en la era digital”. En el día 8 de septiembre de 2017, tendrá lugar un evento en la Sede de la UNESCO, en París, con el objetivo fundamental de determinar qué competencias en lectoescritura necesitan las personas que se conectan a las redes de Internet en sociedades cada vez más digitalizadas, y de examinar las políticas y los programas de alfabetización eficaces, que permiten sacar provecho de las oportunidades que brinda la era digital.
Las tecnologías digitales están cambiando a un ritmo cada vez más creciente el modo en que las personas viven, trabajan, se instruyen y socialibilizan en todas partes del mundo. Dichas tecnologías ofrecen nuevas posibilidades a las personas para que mejoren en todos los aspectos de su vida, inluido en el acceso a la información; a la gestión de los conocimientos; a las redes, los servicios sociales, la producción industrial y las diversas modalidades de trabajo. No obstante, quienes carecen de acceso a las tecnologías digitales, a los conocimientos y a las habilidades y competencias necesarias para navegar por conducto de las redes pueden quedar marginados en el seno de sociedades cada vez más digitalizadas. La alfabetización es, en este sentido, una de estas competencias esenciales.
