Rescatan a miles de abejas tras 50 días enterradas bajo las cenizas del volcán de la Palma (VIDEO)

Seis colmenas se encontraron a apenas unos 600 metros de distancia del foco eruptivo, donde el pasado 19 de septiembre comenzó la erupción.

Miles de abejas han sido rescatadas después de permanecer 50 días en colmenas sepultadas bajo las cenizas del volcán de la Palma a apenas unos 600 metros de distancia del foco eruptivo, donde el pasado 19 de septiembre comenzó la erupción. 

En el rescate, que tuvo lugar el sábado pasado, se encontraron seis colmenas, cinco de las cuales estaban intactas, y solo las abejas de la sexta murieron. Sin embargo, el motivo de su muerte no estaría relacionado con el volcán, sino porque “ya estaban débiles” antes de la erupción, según explicó a la EFE Elías González, presidente de la Agrupación de Defensa Sanitaria (ADS) Apicultores de La Palma.

En un video difundido en redes sociales, se puede ver a un agente de la Policía Local de El Paso escarbando las cenizas para extraer las colmenas, tres de las cuales estaban completamente enterradas bajo las ceni.

Las abejas, cuando se encuentran en peligro, son capaces de defenderse creando una capa de propóleo para tapar cualquier hueco, dejando solo un pequeño agujero para entrar y salir. Según un dueño de varias colmenas afectadas por la lava, ese material parece “un pegamento” que no se quita “ni con una espátula”.

  • Desde que el volcán de La Palma entró en erupción el pasado 19 de septiembre, se han visto ya afectadas por la lava 988,27 hectáreas, mientras que la anchura máxima entre coladas exteriores se mantiene en 3.100 metros.
