Temporada de Barcelona es inesperada por la marca negativa de Lionel Messi

La tabla de posiciones de la Liga de España ofrece una imagen impensada: el poderoso Barcelona de Lionel Messi aparece en el decimosegundo escalón, con apenas 8 puntos en seis fechas. Es verdad, en 1- 1 ante Alavés en Victoria mereció mejore suerte y la figura fue Pacheco, el arquero rival. Pero el andar irregular del equipo que dirige Ronald Koeman (más allá de que ganó sus dos primeros duelos por Champions League ante Ferencvaros y Juventus) también se tradujo en números impensados para la figura de su capitán, de 33 años.

El delantero argentino apenas lleva cuatro goles desde el inicio de la temporada. Y todos fueron de penal: dos por Champions, un en la Liga y uno por Eliminatorias Sudamericanas camino al Mundial de Qatar 2022 con la selección argentina.

La única conquista en seis fechas en el certamen español (fue ante Villarreal, los blaugranas deben una jornada) representa una marca negativa inédita en la carrera de Messi, a excepción de la temporada pasada, porque la comenzó lesionado y no pudo iniciar la competencia jugando.

Hasta el actual curso, los peores registros de Messi databan de las ediciones 2006/2007, 2010/2011 y 2015/2016, todas con tres tantos en seis encuentros. Claro que después, cuando calentó motores, los arqueros volvieron a temerle: finalizó los torneos con 16, 31 y 26 gritos, respectivamente.

La gran cantidad de oportunidades desperdiciadas frente al Alavés incluso provocaron el enojo del entrenador Koeman, quien lo expresó en conferencia de prensa. “Estoy preocupado por nuestro rendimiento en ataque. No es un tema de actitud, ni de concentración, pero sí es una cuestión de tener más acierto de cara a puerta. Si creamos tantas situaciones no podemos fallar tanto”, dijo.

Vale subrayar, en varios momentos de la temporada en ciernes, Barcelona padeció la falta de un N° 9 clásico, tras la salida de Luis Suárez al Atlético Madrid. Antoine Griezmann, Ansu Fati, Ousmane Dembelé, Francisco Trincao y Martin Braithwaite rotaron junto a Messi en un esquema de tres jugadores ofensivos detrás de un ariete improvisado o “falso 9”, mostraron interesantes movimientos, pero les faltó efectividad. Los delanteros-centro solicitados por el DT neerlandés (con Memphis Depay como bandera) no llegaron a Cataluña por cuestiones económicas.
