Badmintonista guatemalteco Cordón avanza en Mundial de Tokio 2022

El badmintonista guatemalteco Kevin Cordón avanzó hoy a la segunda ronda del Campeonato Mundial de Tokio 2022, con un triunfo ante Niluka Karunaratne, de Sri Lanka, por 2-0 y parciales de 21-18 y 21-17.

Cordón, monarca de los Juegos Panamericanos de Guadalajara 2011 y Toronto 2015, enfrentará en la segunda fase al singapurense Loh Kean Yew, actual titular universal, quien aventajó al español Pablo Abián por un doble 21-12.

El centroamericano, cuarto en las Olimpiadas de Tokio 2020, ocupa el puesto 41 del ranking mundial y su próximo rival aparece en el octavo.

Por Latinoamérica, los mexicanos Luis Armando Montoya y Luis Muñoz perdieron en sus primeras presentaciones.

Montoya ante Georges Julien Paul, de Mauricio, por un par 16-21 y Muñoz frente al japonés Kento Momota por 16-21 y 14-21.

En otros partidos, el malasio Lee Zii Jia venció 21-9 y 21-13 al francés Brice Leverdez, el español Luis Enrique Peñalver aventajó al búlgaro Daniel Nikolov por 21-11 y 21-15 y Wong Wing Ki, de Hong Kong, batió al belga Julien Carraggi con parciales de 15-21, 22-20 y 21-11.

Por la rama femenina, la estadounidense Iris Wang superó 21-5 y 21-13 a la israelí Ksenia Polikarpova y la canadiense Wen Yu Zhang eliminó a la birmana Thet Htar Thuzar con tanteadores de 21-7, 11-21 y 21-19.
