Spotify anuncia el aumento de precios de la suscripción en EE.UU.

La plataforma de Spotify, anunció este lunes un incremento en los precios de suscripciones premium en Estados Unidos, marcando la segunda subida en menos de un año. Este ajuste en las tarifas refleja la necesidad de la compañía de continuar invirtiendo en el desarrollo de sus productos y ofrecer una mejor experiencia a sus usuarios.

“Estamos aumentando los precios para poder continuar invirtiendo e innovando en las características de nuestros productos y brindar a los usuarios la mejor experiencia”, señaló Spotify en un comunicado. Los nuevos precios de suscripción mensual se implementarán “durante el próximo mes”. 

De esta manera, la suscripción individual aumentará de $10,99 a $11,99, la suscripción dúo subirá a $16,99, y la suscripción familiar costará $19,99. La suscripción para estudiantes permanecerá sin cambios en $5,99.

Este ajuste de precios sigue al aumento anunciado en julio de 2023, cuando Spotify incrementó las tarifas para suscriptores premium en varios mercados globales, alineándose con movimientos similares realizados por sus competidores, Apple y Amazon.

En abril de este año, Spotify reportó una inusual ganancia operativa de 168 millones de euros (179 millones de dólares) para el primer trimestre, un notable cambio respecto a la pérdida de 156 millones de euros en el mismo período del año anterior. La empresa atribuyó este desempeño positivo a un aumento saludable en el número de suscriptores, una mejor monetización y una fortaleza récord en la rentabilidad.

Por otro lado, a pesar de su éxito en el mercado de la música en línea, Spotify nunca ha registrado beneficios netos anuales y solo ocasionalmente ha reportado beneficios trimestrales. En un esfuerzo por reducir costos, la compañía anunció en diciembre una reducción del 17% en su plantilla, sumándose a despidos previos en enero y junio de 2023.

Finalmente, con estos nuevos aumentos de precios, Spotify espera mantener su liderazgo en el mercado del streaming de música, continuar innovando y ofreciendo un servicio de alta calidad a sus usuarios, al tiempo que busca lograr una estabilidad financiera más sólida.
