Salvadoreño lidera iniciativa para potenciar la matemática en Centroamérica

Óscar Armando Hernández, doctor en Matemáticas y profesor e investigador del Centro de Matemáticas de la Universidad de Oporto en Portugal, ha emprendido un proyecto para destacar el talento matemático en El Salvador y Centroamérica. Su visión es impulsar la investigación y visibilizar el trabajo de matemáticos de la región a nivel mundial mediante la creación de un consorcio.

Este consorcio, en colaboración con la Asociación de Matemáticos de El Salvador (AMATES), la Asociación Matemática Hondureña, la Asociación de Matemáticos de Guatemala y la Sociedad Matemática Mexicana, busca unificar a los amantes de las matemáticas en la región. La iniciativa nació después de la participación de Hernández en el comité de investigación del ICMAM Latinoamérica en 2023, inspirándolo a convertirse en un semillero a nivel centroamericano.

El ICMAM Centroamérica y el Caribe, iniciado en diciembre de 2023, ha llevado a cabo seminarios, conversatorios y conferencias virtuales sobre diversas áreas de investigación matemática, estadística y análisis. La iniciativa busca atraer a más personas interesadas, incluso aquellas no integradas en asociaciones matemáticas, como es el caso de Nicaragua o Panamá.

Hernández, también graduado con honores del doctorado en Matemáticas en la Universidad de Sao Paulo, Brasil, en 2022, destaca la capacidad de las asociaciones recientes y su voluntad de hacer contribuciones significativas en el ámbito matemático. El próximo evento en línea será un conversatorio con la Unión Internacional de Matemáticas, y más detalles pueden encontrarse en el perfil de Facebook “Ciencias en Centro América”. Hernández expresa su orgullo de representar a los matemáticos salvadoreños y llevar el nombre del país a nivel internacional.
