El cesado presidente de Cataluña, Carles Puigdemont, llamó a una “oposición democrática”, después de que Madrid lo destituyera y designara a la vicepresidenta del gobierno de España, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, encargada del control de Cataluña.
“En una sociedad democrática son los parlamentos los que escogen o cesan a los presidentes”, expresó el líder separatista en un mensaje televisado.
Puigdemont respondía a un Boletín Oficial del Estado que declaró la designación de Sáenz de Santamaría, tras su cesación como presidente de la Generalitat, así como la de Oriol Junqueras como vicepresidente y otros líderes catalanes.

“Nuestra voluntad es continuar trabajando para cumplir con los mandatos democráticos y ahora buscar la máxima seguridad y estabilidad”, aseguró.
Puigdemont criticó las medidas como”decisiones contrarias a las expresadas por los ciudadanos de nuestro país en las urnas”, al tiempo en que reafirmó su compromiso de “trabajar para construir un país libre”.
Pidió “paciencia, perseverancia y perspectiva” a los catalanes para “defender lasconquistas conseguidas hasta hoy” y mantener una “oposición democrática” a la aplicación del artículo 155 de la Constitución.
Las medidas fueron tomadas en la madrugada del sábado, después de una reunión de ministros, en respuesta a la votación en el parlamento catalán para declarar su independencia.
Pero en su alocución, Puigdemont describió la declaración como “un día de sensibilidad democrática y cívica”. Resaltó que el parlamento catalán “cumplió con lo que los ciudadanos catalanes habían votado”.
Se refería al referendo de independencia que el gobierno catalán organizó desafiando el fallo del Tribunal Constitucional que la había declarado ilegal.
Ese desafío causó el enfrentamiento entre el gobierno central de España y el gobierno regional de Cataluña y las consecuentes medidas anunciadas por Madrid en la madrugada del sábado.
El Ministerio de Hacienda toma el control financiero pleno.
El de Fomento se hace cargo de las principales infraestructuras catalanas, como puertos, aeropuertos y el servicio ferroviario de la Generalitat.
Con anterioridad, el gobierno central destituyó al jefe de los Mossos d’Esquadra, la policía catalana, e instó a los uniformados a mantener la neutralidad.
El viernes, Madrid disolvió el parlamento catalán y convocó a elecciones regionales para el 21 de diciembre.
La dirección de esa policía autonómica y la organización de los procesos electorales, incluyendo el del 21 de diciembre, quedan bajo la responsabilidad del Ministerio del Interior.
