Una escritora que tituló su obra “Cómo asesinar a tu esposo” está siendo juzgada en Estados Unidos por la muerte de su difunto esposo.

Este caso posee las características de un clásico de la ficción: un enorme pago del seguro, un sospechoso impecable que dice negar todo, un arma desaparecida e imágenes de vigilancia que parecen haber capturado al culpable con las manos en la masa.

Pero para la novelista Nancy Crampton Brophy no se trata de su último libro, sino de la vida real en un tribunal de Oregón.

La autora de la saga titulada “Wrong Never Felt So Right” (Lo incorrecto nunca sintió tan bien, ndlr), que incluye “The Wrong Husband” (El esposo equivocado) y “The Wrong Lover” (El amante equivocado), está acusada de disparar a Daniel Brophy con una pistola cuyo cañón, ahora desaparecido, compró por eBay.

Los fiscales confirman que la escritora, de 71 años, tenía dificultades grandes para lograr pagar su hipoteca, pero mantenía varias pólizas de seguro de vida por las que cobraría un total de 1,4 millones de dólares en caso de que su marido falleciera.

“Me va mejor financieramente con Dan estando vivo que con Dan muerto”, dijo cuando subió al estrado en Portland esta semana, informó el diario The Oregonian.

El fiscal Shawn Overstreet mencionó que las imágenes tomadas por cámaras de seguridad demuestran que la minivan de Crampton Brophy estuvo en las afueras del Instituto Culinario de Oregón el 2 de junio de 2018 a casi la misma hora que su esposo fue asesinado en uno de los salones de clase.

“Este no es un hombre al que le habría disparado porque tengo un problema de memoria. Me parece que si le hubiese disparado, sabría cada detalle”.

Daniel Brophy, de 63 años, fue encontrado muerto esa mañana por estudiantes que se preparaban para clase. Fue baleado dos veces.
