Arqueólogos descubren en Israel un complejo de producción de un “prestigioso vino” de hace 1.500 años

La bebida elaborada en la zona se conocía como 'vino de Gaza' y se exportaba a Egipto, Turquía, Grecia y posiblemente el sur de Italia, según los expertos.

Este lunes, un grupo de arqueólogos informó que han desenterrado en la ciudad de Yavne (Israel) un enorme complejo de producción de vino que fue construido y utilizado durante el período bizantino, hace unos 1.500 años.

El complejo incluye cinco prensas de vino, almacenes, hornos para producir recipientes de arcilla y decenas de miles de fragmentos y jarras.

Según la Autoridad de Antigüedades de Israel, el hallazgo demuestra que Yavne fue una potencia vinícola en el pasado, con una producción de hasta dos millones de litros al año.

“Este era un vino de prestigio, un vino blanco ligero, y se llevó a muchos, muchos países del Mediterráneo”, dijo Jon Seligman, uno de los directores de la excavación, en declaraciones recogidas por AP.

Seligman señaló que la bebida elaborada en la zona se conocía como ‘vino de Gaza’ y se exportaba a Egipto, Turquía, Grecia y posiblemente el sur de Italia.

“Más allá de eso, esta era una fuente importante de nutrición y era una bebida segura, porque el agua a menudo estaba contaminada, por lo que podían beber vino de forma segura”, agregó Seligman.

Por su parte, el alcalde de Yavne, Zvi Gur-Ari, dijo en un post de Facebook que el sitio será preservado y presentado como un destino turístico y educativo.

“Hemos determinado que el sitio se conservará y será (…) un foco turístico y educativo para muchos visitantes. Los planes de construcción serán modificados y adaptados de una manera que la carretera que se suponía que iba a pasar por el complejo se actualizará a un puente que permitirá que el sitio permanezca intacto”, escribió el político.
