Sale al mercado una mascarilla inteligente con auriculares incorporados

Este cubrebocas, que protege contra el virus a la vez que permite suprimir el ruido, empezará a entregarse en EE.UU. dentro de unas pocas horas.

Los seguidores del rapero estadounidense William Adams, alias Will.i.am, y también muchas personas ajenas al rap pero a las que les gusta andar por la calle con los auriculares puestos escuchando música o hablando por teléfono, a partir de este jueves tendrán a su disposición una mascarilla médica inteligente que lleva incorporados unos auriculares ‘bluetooth’.

El músico y la empresa Honeywell han anunciado en las redes sociales la entrega de este producto, fruto de su colaboración con el diseñador mexicano José Fernández, autor de los trajes espaciales para SpaceX. La mascarilla, llamada Xupermask, sigue el camino del fabricante de dispositivos para videojuegos Razer, que en enero lanzó un respirador reutilizable equipado con iluminación LED, ventiladores y micrófonos.

La mayor prestación de la mascarilla es el aislamiento sónico, que permite una mejor comunicación por teléfono y escuchar música sin interferencias, los dos usos principales del dispositivo. Al mismo tiempo incluye elementos sanitarios como dos filtros HEPA y tres ventiladores, dos de los cuales están rodeados por diodos emisores de luz, que se activan en la oscuridad. La mascarilla se fabrica en tela mallada y silicona, se sujeta firmemente sobre la cara y, a juzgar por las fotos de Will.i.am con el cubrebocas puesto, es compatible con llevar gafas.

El precio de la unidad ronda los 300 dólares, un precio mucho más elevado que el de la mayoría de las mascarillas que circulan en el mercado. No obstante, según destacó el diario The New York Times, es el precio medio de la gama alta de auriculares equipados con la función de suprimir el ruido.

La idea de la Xupermask, que estará disponible para los pedidos en territorio estadounidense a partir de este 8 de abril, se le ocurrió al rapero en marzo del 2020, cuando se encontraba en el Reino Unido participando en el programa ‘The Voice’ como miembro del jurado. Era una época en que los países europeos se estaban confinando y a Will.i.am le preocupaba la posibilidad de “no poder entrar a Estados Unidos o, incluso si podía entrar, tener que estar en un avión”, recordó. Fue entonces cuando pidió a su equipo de apoyo técnico que empezara a trabajar en la creación del dispositivo.
