Robot pudo correr 5 km sin ninguna ayuda y se convierte en la esperanza de “los domiciliarios del futuro”

Desde que el ser humano tuvo el primer contacto con los robots, uno de los mayores sueños es lograr que estos se puedan convertir en los mayordomos del futuro. Delegar tareas a las máquinas con la total confianza de que estas podrán cumplirlas de forma óptima y segura, es uno de los objetivos de la robótica en todo el mundo.

Por esto, cada vez que se avanza en la perfección de una característica propia de los humanos pero desarrollada en un robot, la ciencia lo celebra sabiendo que es un paso más para llegar a la perfección.

Ejemplo de esto es lo demostrado por un grupo de científicos de la Universidad Estatal de Oregón, Estados Unidos, quienes consiguieron enseñarle a correr a un robot que, de hecho, ya rompió una increíble marca.

“Cassie, el robot, inventado en la Universidad Estatal de Oregon y producido por la empresa derivada de OSU Agility Robotics, ha hecho historia al recorrer 5 kilómetros y completar la ruta en poco más de 53 minutos”, escribieron desde la universidad en un comunicado oficial publicado en su página web.

De esta forma, Cassie se convirtió, según la OSU, en el primer robot de dos piernas en completar un recorrido tan extenso, sin ninguna clase de atadura y con una sola carga. Para esto, los investigadores se centraron en la importancia del “aprendizaje automático”, un sistema de enseñanza con el que la máquina ha aprendido a controlar su cuerpo en cada movimiento mientras corre.

“Los estudiantes del Laboratorio de Robótica Dinámica de la Facultad de Ingeniería de OSU combinaron la experiencia de la biomecánica y los enfoques de control de robots existentes con nuevas herramientas de aprendizaje automático”, explicó Jonathan Hurst, profesor de robótica en la OSU y cofundador de Agility en 2017.
