La NASA comunica la fecha de la posible destrucción de La Tierra por el impacto de un asteroide “peligroso”

El asteroide ‘2009 JF1’ ha sido considerado por la NASA como “potencialmente peligroso”. La agencia espacial norteamericana, que tiene un registro de las rocas espaciales en riesgo de colisionar contra la Tierra, ha puesto fecha al impacto de este asteroide: 6 de mayo de 2022.

A través de Sentry, sistema de monitoreo de colisiones, la NASA ha observado de forma exhaustiva el asteroide ‘2009 JF1’, calificado como Objeto Cercano a la Tierra (NEO), lo que significa que está suficientemente cerca como para considerarse una amenaza para la Tierra. El sistema clasifica a los asteroides según su tamaño, velocidad, dimensiones y por año en el que es posible que ocurra un impacto.

“Algunos asteroides y cometas siguen caminos orbitales que los llevan mucho más cerca del Sol de lo habitual y, por lo tanto, de la Tierra”, explica la NASA en un comunicado.

 

La Agencia Espacial lo visualizó a través de Sentry en 2009 y estima que mide alrededor de 130 metros de diámetro, lo comparan con el tamaño de la Gran Pirámide de Giza, Egipto. A través de los parámetros seguidos, la agencia ha establecido el momento exacto del impacto del asteroide a las 8.34 horas del 6 de mayo de 2022 y los expertos consideran que el impacto podría ocasionar una explosión equivalente de 230 kilotones de dinamita

Misiones para “atacar” asteroides

Las agencias espaciales están trabajando actualmente para elaborar misiones para “atacar” a estos asteroides que suponen una amenaza para el planeta y poder desviarlos de su trayectoria, es el caso de la nave espacial DART, que será lanzada a mediados de este 2021 con el objetivo de colisionar contra Dimorphos, uno de los asteroides más peligrosos para la Tierra por sus características. DART pertenece a la misión Hera de la NASA en colaboración con la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA).

La agencia espacial estadounidense, sin embargo, ha estimado el impacto del asteroide ‘2009 JF1’ en una probabilidad entre 3.800 de que se produzca (un 0,026%).
