Científicos del MIT han usado la inteligencia artificial para desarrollar nueva tecnología que ayude a hacer el diagnóstico de la enfermedad mucho más sencillo.

Durante los meses que ha durado la pandemia por Covid-19, científicos de todo el mundo han dedicado sus esfuerzos en colaborar en tratamientos para combatirla, pero algo que es igual de importante es el diagnóstico oportuno ya que esto podría hacer una diferencia significativa en la supervivencia de los pacientes, por ello Brian Subirana, un investigador de origen Catalan y el Instituto Tecnológico de Massachusetts (MIT) han optado por hacer uso de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) para desarrollar una herramienta la cual ayude al diagnóstico de la enfermedad analizando la tos de los usuarios, esto para determinar cuando se trata de un síntoma de coronavirus y cuando es causada por otra razón.  Relacionado .

La tecnología se comenzó a desarrollar desde el mes de abril, voluntarios de todas partes del mundo compartieron grabaciones de su tos junto con algunos datos básicos, incluida su nacionalidad y el resultado de su prueba de coronavirus, el AI así puede comenzar su proceso de aprendizaje de los patrones que tienen en común las toses de quienes se contagiaron del virus, de esta forma la herramienta será capaz de distinguir una tos normal de una tos alarmante síntoma de covid-19, esto sin necesidad de que se realice una prueba tardada y de alto costo. Los resultados de esta AI son impresionantes, con una 98% de precisión puede distinguir entre la tos de una persona sana y la tos de una persona asintomática, la tecnología actualmente está siendo implementada en una aplicación para dispositivos móviles, de esta forma es sencillo que los usuarios.
