Autoridades reportan incremento de accidentes de tránsito previo a la Navidad

Los accidentes de tránsito en El Salvador están incrementando en número y víctimas previo a los festejos de Navidad y Fin de Año.

De acuerdo con Saúl Castelar, viceministro de Transporte, en los últimos días se han reportado más incidentes varios de ellos con fallecidos.

Castelar explicó que se pasó de un promedio de 41 accidentes diarios a 55 en las primeras semanas de diciembre.

Los siniestros también son más mortales, los datos del viceministerio reflejan que se pasó de tres muertos por día, mientras que el número de lesionados subió de 22 a 55.

Castelar insistió que la población debe acatar las medidas para evitar los incidentes en calles y carreteras un punto donde el consumo irresponsable de bebidas alcohólicas se ha identificado como una causa importante.

El funcionario participó esta mañana de un punto de inspección de en coordinación con la División de Tránsito Terrestre de la Policía Nacional Civil en la Ceiba de Guadalupe, donde además de verificar la documentación de conductores y unidades, se verificó que los vehículos circulen con las capacidades establecidas para disminuir riesgos de contagios del covid-19.

“La gente parece estar perdiendo el miedo, el virus sigue entre nosotros. Si relajamos las medidas vamos a tener un enero complicado”, expreso el viceministro.

“Siempre hemos estado haciendo conciencia a la población de que es necesario mantener las medidas de bioseguridad y respetar las leyes de tránsito”, dijo Castelar que lamentó que la ley no les faculte para sancionar, por ejemplo, a quienes no usan mascarilla en los autobuses.

Sin embargo, las autoridades si pueden sancionar a conductores que transporten a más pasajeros de lo permitido.

El viceministerio ha organizado controles en varios puntos del país para hacer conciencia de los riesgos viales y sanitarios.
