La primera en contagiarse fue la madre del hogar, una mujer de 36 años de edad, llamada Verónica García, quien decidió ocultar durante algún tiempo la información sobre su contagio al resto de su familia.
La mujer se habría contagiado en diciembre del año pasado y comenzó a presentar síntomas durante la segunda semana de ese mes, por lo que decidió tomarse una prueba rápida y luego una prueba PCR: ambas arrojaron un resultado positivo.

Sin embargo, no comunicó inicialmente el diagnóstico con su esposo, a quien le manifestó que se trataba de un episodio gripal fuerte, pero no coronavirus.
La mujer decidió hacer público su diagnóstico cuando su pareja, José Antonio Gómez, se trasladó a una zona cercana para participar de una reunión familiar que se llevó a cabo el 27 de diciembre.
Durante el encuentro, la mujer llamó al hombre para explicarle que su diagnóstico había resultado positivo y que por esa razón no era conveniente que mantuviera un encuentro presencial con más miembros de la familia.
Ante el aviso de su esposa, José Antonio Gómez, de 33 años, decidió tomarle pruebas de coronavirus a todos sus hijos, aunque los primeros resultados arrojaron que los niños no estaban contagiados.
No obstante, durante la primera semana de 2021, Verónica García empezó a presentar complicaciones más severas y tuvo que ser hospitalizada el 14 de enero por un cuadro de neumonía. Los hechos ocurrieron en Venezuela. La mujer, su esposo y sus hijos fallecieron a causa del virus.
