 El MAG entrega semilla certificada para impulsar producción de arroz en zonas de riego

El Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), a través del Centro Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria y Forestal (CENTA), ha dado inicio a la entrega de 290 quintales de semilla certificada de arroz CENTA A-8. Esta medida tiene como objetivo impulsar la producción de arroz en zonas de riego, específicamente en los distritos de Zapotitán, Atiocoyo Norte y Atiocoyo Sur. La distribución busca mitigar los efectos del fenómeno de El Niño y contribuir a la seguridad alimentaria mediante el fomento de la siembra de arroz bajo riego.

El Ministro de Agricultura y Ganadería, Óscar Guardado, supervisó la entrega y destacó la importancia de esta iniciativa para reducir los impactos del cambio climático. La semilla certificada, con una inversión de $29,000, proviene de la reserva del CENTA y pertenece a la variedad A-8, reconocida por su mayor productividad y resistencia a plagas. Los agricultores beneficiarios recibirán asistencia técnica por parte de los extensionistas del CENTA para cultivar aproximadamente 145 manzanas, con una producción estimada de 15,000 quintales de arroz granza.

Durante la verificación, el Ministro Guardado interactuó con los agricultores, con el propósito de comprender la situación de los arroceros y motivarlos a continuar cultivando este grano esencial en la canasta básica salvadoreña. Jorge Quijada, presidente de la Asociación de Regantes de Atiocoyo Norte (ARAN), expresó su agradecimiento por la iniciativa, resaltando la experiencia de los agricultores y la importancia de la asistencia brindada por el CENTA para lograr resultados positivos en la producción de arroz.
