Los periodistas colombianos Leiner Montero y Dilia Contreras fueron asesinados a tiros esta madrugada en el departamento de Magdalena, en el norte de Colombia, según confirmaron fuentes oficiales a Caracol Radio, en un incidente todavía bajo investigación.
El alcalde del municipio de Fundación, Carlos Sierra, confirmó que los comunicadores se encontraban en las fiestas patronales de la localidad de Santa Rosa de Lima.
Tras dejar la fiesta, fueron interceptadas por dos sujetos en moto que les dispararon en repetidas ocasiones.
Según la primeras pesquisas de la policía, el ataque contra los reporteros está relacionado con un “hecho de intolerancia” durante el festejo, una expresión que usan las autoridades colombianas para referirse a riñas y altercados físicos.
Pero la Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa (FLIP) pidió que las autoridades “tengan en cuenta dentro de la investigación el trabajo periodístico de Leiner y Dilia”, quien también era directora de otro portal llamado “La Bocina”.
El ataque también dejó un herido “que está recibiendo atención médica”, detalló el coronel Andrés Serna, comandante de policía del departamento de Magdalena, quien no precisó si el lesionado también es periodista.
Un video publicado sobre las 19:30 horas del sábado en la página de Facebook de Sol Digital muestra a varias personas reunidas en las fiestas populares del corregimiento de Santa Rosa de Lima, a unos 16 kilómetros de Fundación.
De acuerdo al más reciente informe de esa ONG colombiana, la violencia contra periodistas en el país aumentó en 2021 y dejó 768 víctimas de algún tipo de agresión, incluido un asesinato.
Serna convocó a un consejo de seguridad en Fundación, una de las regiones “más afectadas por la violencia, la pobreza, las economías ilícitas y la debilidad institucional”, según el gobierno de Colombia, principal exportador de cocaína del mundo.
Desde la firma del acuerdo de paz con la exguerrilla FARC en 2016, diez reporteros han sido asesinados, lo que ubica a Colombia en el tercer lugar de países más peligrosos para ejercer el oficio en América Latina, detrás de Venezuela y México, según Reporteros Sin Fronteras.
