Tormenta Tropical Julia dejó casi 6,500 damnificados en Nicaragua

Un total de 6,469 personas quedaron a la intemperie en dos ciudades del Caribe de Nicaragua como consecuencia del impacto del huracán Julia la madrugada del domingo, según datos brindados este lunes por el Gobierno local, que no reportó víctimas.

Los afectados, que representan un 10 % de las poblaciones de Bluefields y Corn Island (Isla del Maíz), perdieron los techos de sus casas debido a los vientos máximos sostenidos de Julia, con velocidades de 140 kilómetros por hora y rachas superiores, según la información oficial.

“Perdieron casi la totalidad de techos en sus viviendas, un 10 % más o menos, de los habitantes de la ciudad de Bluefields y de Corn Island”, dijo la vicepresidenta de Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, a través de medios oficiales.

De acuerdo con la estadística brindada por la también primera dama, unas 5.696 personas quedaron sin los techos de sus casas en la ciudad de Bluefields, cabecera de la Región Autónoma Caribe Sur (RACS), y al menos 763 en Corn Island, ubicada a unos 60 kilómetros al este de la costa nicaragüense.

Murillo afirmó que un contingente de camiones con láminas de zinc partió hoy hacia la RACS con el objetivo de asistir a los damnificados.

La primera dama no informó sobre el estado de los habitantes y de las viviendas en la zona de impacto de Julia, el municipio de Laguna de Perlas, donde habitan 18.314, conforme los datos oficiales.

En un informe preliminar emitido tras la salida de Julia del territorio nicaragüense, el Sistema Nacional para la Prevención, Mitigación y Atención de Desastres (Sinapred) indicó que los desbordes de ríos y lagos, así como lluvias torrenciales, provocaron inundaciones que afectaron más de 8.000 viviendas en diversas zonas de Nicaragua.

El Sinapred también indicó que la cantidad de personas evacuadas hacia lugares seguros superó las 13.000 personas, pero no especificó cuántas debieron permanecer en refugios o viviendas solidarias.
