¿Se retrasará el resultados de los votos en Estados Unidos?

Debido a la pandemia del coronavirus, millones de personas han tenido que votar por medio de correo, lo que podría causar un posible retraso en conocer los resultados.

El resultado de las elecciones se suele anunciar la noche del día de las elecciones, que este año es martes 3 de noviembre.

Después del cierre de las urnas, se empieza con el conteo de votos en cada uno de los estados.

Los presidentes de Estados Unidos se deciden por el total de estados en los que han ganado, no por la votación popular a nivel nacional. El número de votos electorales de cada estado se basa en la población del mismo. Para ganar la Casa Blanca se necesitan 270 votos electorales.

Hasta el 2 de noviembre, se registraron más de 97 millones de estadounidenses que habían votado de manera anticipada, ya sea por correo o en persona. De ese total, un poco más de 62 millones fueron personas que prefirieron usar el correo para evitar aglomeraciones y frenar el aumento de casos de Covid-19.

Los votos por medio de correo suelen tardarse más para ser contabilizados. Todos los estados tienen las medidas de como y cuando hacerlo.

Algunos estados, como California, aceptarán votos siempre que sean enviados el día de las elecciones, incluso si llegan semanas después, otros estados solo contarán las boletas postales recibidas antes del cierre de las urnas.

Se tiene que revisar que cada voto debe tener una firma que se corresponda con la firma de la tarjeta de registro del votante.
