Roban sin saberlo vacunas contra el Covid-19 y las devuelven 12 horas después con una nota de disculpa

Este jueves 1.710 dosis de las vacunas Covaxin y Covishield fueron robadas del almacén de un hospital de la ciudad india de Jind, y 12 horas después 622 de ellas fueron recuperadas con una nota adjunta de los autores del robo, que se disculpaban asegurando no saber que su botín eran fármacos contra el coronavirus, dio a conocer India Today.

Los hechos ocurrieron en la ciudad de Jind, en el norte de la India. Los delincuentes arrepentidos dejaron el paquete con el botín frente a una comisaría de Policía el día después del robo.

El director del centro médico Bimla Rathi contó que al llegar al hospital este jueves el personal del centro descubrió la falta de las vacunas contra el coronavirus. Por el contrario, otras vacunas, como la de la poliomelitis y la tuberculosis, así como el dinero en efectivo que se guardaba en el almacén, permanecían intactos. Al mismo tiempo, se informó que en el lugar del robo no había ni cámaras de vigilancia ni guardias de seguridad para evitar la entrada de extraños. 

Este viernes un hombre llegó en motocicleta a una comisaría y dejó un paquete frente al edificio, diciendo que contenía comida para un agente de la estación. Al examinar el contenido del paquete, los policías descubrieron las vacunas con una nota en la que los delincuentes se disculpaban por haberlas robado. 

Las autoridades abrieron una investigación para establecer las circunstancias de los hechos e identificar a los responsables. “Es posible que quisieran robar alguna otra vacuna o droga y devolvieran lo que habían hurtado al enterarse de que no era lo que buscaban”, puntualizó Rajender Singh, de la comisaría local. “Tenemos varios indicios y esperamos realizar un arresto pronto”, dijo, citado por medios locales.

India está siendo golpeada con especial dureza por la segunda ola de covid-19. Mientras el país bate nuevos récords de contagios diarios, su sistema sanitario está colapsando y no puede atender a todos los enfermos. Este viernes la India registró 332.730 nuevas infecciones, estableciendo de esta manera su segundo récord mundial consecutivo de casos de la enfermedad.
