La policía tailandesa incauta más de 1,1 toneladas de metanfetaminas

La policía tailandesa incautó 1,1 toneladas de metanfetamina cristalina en menos de una semana, dijeron los oficiales el martes, mientras el reino toma medidas enérgicas contra el contrabando que ha aumentado desde que se reabrieron las fronteras del país.

El botín se produce después de un aumento en los enfrentamientos entre la policía y los contrabandistas en las remotas tierras del interior del norte del reino, durante mucho tiempo un centro para el comercio de narcóticos ilegales.

Tras un aviso, la policía arrestó a 10 ciudadanos tailandeses en una serie de redadas en el norte y el sur del reino.

“Algunas de estas drogas se mantuvieron durante un período de tiempo antes de ser transportadas a las provincias más al sur, y se suponía que serían enviadas a otros países más tarde”, dijo el general de policía Chinnapat Sarasin, subjefe de la Policía Nacional.

Dijo que Tailandia estaba “rodeada de puntos críticos de fabricación de drogas”, pero que la pandemia de covid había impedido que los contrabandistas movieran sus mercancías.

“Ahora que se ha reabierto el país, los productos acumulados se envían sin parar”, dijo.

La policía dijo en un comunicado que una banda transnacional de drogas estaba detrás del tráfico ilícito.

En la primera operación, los agentes encontraron 731 kilogramos (1.600 libras) de metanfetamina, también conocida con el nombre de “hielo”, en dos redadas en las provincias de Phatthalung y Surat Thani, en el sur de Tailandia.

Luego de un aviso, los oficiales arrestaron a tres hombres el jueves después de que descubrieron 688 kilogramos de metanfetamina cristalina en tres camionetas, que creen que fue contrabandeada al noreste de Tailandia antes de ser transportada al sur.

Posteriormente, la policía arrestó a cuatro personas más después de encontrar 43 kilogramos de la droga, que se vendía a través de la popular aplicación de mensajería tailandesa LINE.

El domingo, otro hombre fue arrestado en la provincia norteña de Chiang Rai cuando se preparaba para transportar aproximadamente 300 kilogramos de hielo, escondidos en bolsitas de té, al sur de Satun.

Finalmente, alrededor de 114 kilos fueron confiscados en las provincias centrales de Nakhon Sawan y Patum Thani, luego de que la droga fuera encontrada escondida en paquetes de bolsas de café. Dos hombres fueron arrestados.

El sudeste asiático está inundado de metanfetamina y las autoridades obtuvieron un récord de mil millones de píldoras en toda la región asiática en 2021, según un informe de las Naciones Unidas.
