Gisela Sánchez hace historia como primera mujer presidenta del BCIE

Este viernes, la costarricense Gisela Sánchez fue elegida como la primera mujer presidenta en la historia del Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (BCIE), según anunció el presidente de Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves.

Sánchez, la propuesta oficial del país, agradeció el respaldo de naciones como España, Corea del Sur, Panamá, México, Colombia, Belice, República Dominicana, Argentina, Nicaragua y El Salvador. Se impuso sobre dos finalistas, Bernardo José Alfaro Araya y el actual vicepresidente del BCIE, Jaime Roberto Díaz Palacios.

Con una destacada carrera en liderazgo empresarial, Sánchez ha trabajado en empresas como BAC Credomatic, Florida Ice & Farm Co (Fifco), Global Endevours, Fundación Avina, Citibank, el Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas (Incae) y Nutrivida. Como presidenta de la Cámara Costarricense Norteamericana de Comercio (Amcham), aportó a su experiencia.

La nueva presidenta sucede al hondureño Dante Mossi y se espera que mejore la transparencia del BCIE, según Ruth López de Cristosal, quien destaca la importancia de que la entidad considere los principios democráticos al aprobar desembolsos.

El legado de Mossi, conocido como el “banquero de los dictadores” por su apoyo a mandatarios sin respeto por el orden constitucional, suscita expectativas sobre la gestión de Sánchez.

La jefa Jurídica Anticorrupción y Justicia de Cristosal, Ruth López, espera que el BCIE mejore sus estándares de transparencia y adopte una postura más cuidadosa en la aprobación de desembolsos, evitando convertirse en un respaldo para gobiernos que no respetan los valores democráticos.
