Gerente de supermercado mató a siete de sus empleados en Virginia

Al menos siete personas han resultado muertas en un tiroteo ocurrido en un supermercado Walmart de la localidad de Chesapeake, en el estado estadounidense de Virginia, informó el ayuntamiento de la localidad en su cuenta de Twitter.

Entre los fallecidos se encuentra el autor del tiroteo, según el ayuntamiento, que cita como fuente a la policía de Chesapeake, quien no ha confirmado si existen heridos.

Se cree que el autor de los disparos es el gerente de la tienda que abrió fuego contra otros empleados mientras estaban en un área de descanso, y luego se disparó, informó la CNN.

Según explicó a la cadena de televisión el portavoz de la policía de Chesapeake Leo Kosinski, el suceso ocurrió después de las 22 horas de la noche, cuando en establecimiento estaba aún abierto al público, y la policía fue alertada de los hechos a las 22:12 hora local (03:12 GMT del miércoles).

Una cuarentena de vehículos de emergencias se desplazaron hasta el lugar, en el que también se desplegó un enorme operativo policial.

La cadena de supermercados Walmart dijo que estaba “conmocionado por este trágico evento” y que estaba “trabajando en estrecha colaboración con las fuerzas del orden”.

El ayuntamiento ha anunciado que se llevará a cabo una conferencia de prensa para informar sobre el suceso a las 08.00 hora local.

Chesapeake, en el sureste de Virginia, es una ciudad de unos 250.000 habitantes y forma parte del área metropolitana de Virginia Beach y Norfolk.

El suceso se produce apenas cuatro días después de que otras cinco personas fallecieran en un ataque contra un club LGTB en Colorado, en el que también 25 personas resultaron heridas.
