EEUU prohíbe el ingreso de viajeros procedentes de ocho países africanos.

Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) y el Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos desaconsejaron el sábado viajar a ocho países del sur de África luego que la Casa Blanca anunciara nuevas restricciones de traslados en respuesta a una nueva variante de COVID-19.

Los viajes estarán prohibidos en su mayoría a partir del lunes desde Sudáfrica, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique y Malawi, dijo un alto funcionario de la administración del presidente Joe Biden.

Solo los ciudadanos estadounidenses y los residentes permanentes podrán viajar desde los ocho países, agregó el funcionario. “La política se implementó con mucha precaución a la luz de una nueva variante de Covid-19 que circula en el sur de África”, añadio.

El asesor jefe del Gobierno estadounidense para cuestiones médicas, Anthony Fauci, admitió este sábado que es posible que la nueva variante de la covid-19 identificada en el África austral ya haya llegado a EEUU, pero aún no haya sido detectada.

“No me sorprendería que esté aquí y no la hayamos detectado todavía. Cuando tiene un virus que se transmite con tanta facilidad y ya hay casos en otros países a consecuencia de los viajes, casi invariablemente terminará llegando a todas partes”, dijo Fauci
