Natalie Portman gana el Premio Genesis

El jurado resaltó el compromiso de la actriz con las causas sociales y su profunda conexión con sus orígenes judíos e israelíes.

La actriz estadounidense Natalie Portman ha sido galardonada con el Premio Genesis 2018, informó hoy la fundación que otorga el galardón, concedido a miembros de la comunidad judía en reconocimiento a su trayectoria profesional y su compromiso con los valores judíos.

“La presencia carismática de Natalie en la pantalla ha tocado el corazón de millones de personas”, señaló Stan Polovets, cofundador y miembro de la Fundación para el Premio Genesis, sobre la galardonada.

El jurado resaltó el compromiso de la actriz con las causas sociales y su profunda conexión con sus orígenes judíos e israelíes lo que, para Polovets, la convierte un referente para millones de jóvenes judíos.

“Ejemplifica los rasgos centrales los valores del pueblo judío: la persistencia y el trabajo duro, la búsqueda de la excelencia, la curiosidad intelectual y el deseo de contribuir a hacer un mundo mejor”, señaló.

Portman, que nació en Jerusalén en 1981 con el nombre original de Neta Lee Hershlag, se trasladó a Estados Unidos con su familia cuando aún era una niña y empezó con doce años una exitosa carrera en el mundo del cine, que le ha llevado a ganar dos Globos de Oro y un Óscar a la mejor actriz por la película “El cisne negro” (“Black Swan”) en 2010.

Aunque se marchó de Israel en la infancia, conserva la doble nacionalidad, habla hebreo y aún mantiene un estrecho vínculo con sus raíces. En 2015, dirigió y protagonizó “Una historia de amor y oscuridad” (“A Tale of Love and Darkness”), un largometraje en hebreo basado en la novela del escritor israelí Amos Oz.

Más allá de su trayectoria artística, Portman también tiene un largo recorrido como activista de la igualdad de género, los derechos de los animales o contra la pobreza.

Como cada año, el galardón del Premio Genesis se acompañará con la entrega de un millón de dólares para programas filantrópicos que, en esta ocasión, en honor a Portman, se destinará a proyectos que trabajan por la igualdad de las mujeres.
