Brote de enfermedad motífera en Disneyland

El parque de diversiones Disneyland, en el sur de California, apagó dos torres de refrigeración por el brote de una extraña enfermedad que podría provocar la muerte en quienes la contraigan. Se trata de la enfermedad del legionario o legionelosis, una forma de neumonía potencialmente letal.

Las torres luego debieron ser clausuradas temporalmente. Jessica Good, portavoz de la agencia de servicios de salud del condado de Orange, advirtió que nueve personas que visitaron en septiembre pasado el parque contrajeron la enfermedad.

La funcionaria señaló además que otras tres personas que estuvieron en ese tiempo en Anaheim también fueron afectadas. Uno de esos pacientes murió, indicó la vocera del condado. Según informó Good, los 12 pacientes tienen entre 52 y 94 años, y 10 de ellos están hospitalizados por el grado de gravedad del caso.

La enfermedad es una forma severa de neumonía, causada por la bacteria Leionella. A menudo es hallada en sistemas acuíferos o refrigeración. Las potenciales víctimas inhalan el aire contaminado que sale de aires acondicionados o duchas.
