Miles de migrantes intentan cruzar la frontera antes del fin del Artículo 42

El Título 42 es una de las restricciones fronterizas entre Estados Unidos y México adoptadas para evitar la propagación de COVID-19. Bajo esta medida de salud pública, Estados Unidos expulsa a las personas hacia México o a sus países de origen. Estas expulsiones se conocen como expulsiones bajo Título 42.

La Oficina de Aduanas y Protección de Fronteras (CPB, por sus siglas en inglés) anunció el 1 de abril del 2022 que el artículo ya no era necesario, pero la política siguió en curso y recién finalizará este 11 de mayo.

Son miles de migrantes que se han reunido en las fronteras entre México y Estados Unidos para cruzar antes que la política expire. A raíz de esto, los gobiernos locales han enviado tropas de soldados para evitar que los migrantes sigan cruzando.

Las autoridades han dado sus declaraciones ante la finalización de este artículo. “Estamos dejando muy claro que nuestra frontera no está abierta, que cruzar irregularmente es contra la ley y que aquellos que no sean elegibles para la ayuda (asilo) serán devueltos rápidamente”, dijo Alejandro Mayorkas, secretario de Seguridad Nacional, en una conferencia de prensa en Washington.

Los migrantes se han reunido en México, cerca de varias zonas fronterizas y muchos de ellos sin saber cómo o cuándo cruzar. Imágenes de drones han captado las multitudes reunidas en la valla fronteriza de El Paso, Texas, frenre a la vecina Ciudad Juárez, en México.

A pesar del imponente muro que divide San Diego y Tijuana, cientos han estado cruzando en los últimas días, esperando entregarse a las autoridades de la Patrulla Fronteriza.
