El ganador del Balón de Oro, Karim Benzema, jugará con la camiseta de Al-Ittihad

El delantero francés Karim Benzema ha firmado un contrato inicial de tres años con el equipo saudí Al-Ittihad, anunció el pasado martes el club.

Benzema jugó el domingo su último partido con el Real Madrid tras 14 años en el gigante español, con el que ganó el Balón de Oro masculino en 2022, el premio que reconoce al mejor jugador del fútbol mundial a lo largo de un año.

El Al-Ittihad se proclamó campeón de la Saudi Pro League (SPL) esta temporada bajo la dirección de Nuno Espirito Santo y ofreció a Benzema un contrato valorado en más de 100 millones de dólares.

La SPL compartió una declaración sobre el fichaje, en la que se leía: “La llegada de Benzema es el fichaje de mayor impacto en la historia del club hasta la fecha”.

“También marca otro gran paso en el camino de la Saudi Pro League para convertirse en uno de los principales destinos del fútbol para los mejores del mundo después de su mayor temporada hasta la fecha”.

Benzema aparece citado en el comunicado de la liga diciendo: “Estoy emocionado por experimentar una nueva liga de fútbol en un país diferente. El club Al-Ittihad tiene una historia asombrosa, una afición increíblemente apasionada y grandes ambiciones futbolísticas para convertirse en una fuerza en Asia tras ganar la liga”.

Benzema también expresó su alegría por unirse a una liga en la que ya está su ex compañero del Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Es una buena liga y hay muchos buenos jugadores”, declaró el jugador de 35 años. “Cristiano Ronaldo ya está allí, un amigo (que) demuestra que Arabia Saudí está empezando a progresar más en su nivel. Estoy aquí para ganar, como hice en Europa”.
