Charlbi Dean: muere a los 32 años la actriz y modelo por una enfermedad súbita

La actriz y modelo sudafricana Charlbi Dean, que protagonizó la galardonada película Triangle of Sadness (El triángulo de la tristeza) y la serie de televisión Black Lightning, murió a la edad de 32 años.

Dean tuvo un papel destacado junto a Woody Harrelson en Triangle of Sadness, que ganó la Palma de Oro, el principal premio del Festival de Cine de Cannes de este año.

En Black Lightning, basada en personajes de DC Comics, apareció como Syonide.

Los representantes de Dean dijeron que su muerte en el hospital por una enfermedad repentina e inesperada fue “devastadora”.

En Triangle of Sadness, del escritor y director sueco Ruben Ostlund, Dean interpretó a Yaya, la mitad de una pareja de modelos que es invitada a un crucero que sale terriblemente mal.

“Charlbi Dean era una verdadera estrella ascendente. Su pérdida es enorme”, escribió el crítico de cine Peter Bradshaw escribió en el periódico The Guardian.

Otro conocido crítico Robert Daniels tuiteó que la noticia era “muy trágica”. “Charlbi Dean estaba a las puertas del éxito con Triangle of Sadness. Tenía muchas ganas de ver hacia dónde iría su carrera después de esa película”, escribió.

El también crítico Guy Lodge calificó su pérdida como “un gran impacto”. “Era tan ingeniosa, socarrona y precisa como un reloj en Triangle of Sadness, y estaba muy emocionado de ver un nuevo talento sudafricano en la escena internacional”, agregó.

El dramaturgo Jeremy O Harris describió a la fallecida actriz como un “verdadero talento”. “Esto es absolutamente devastador. Charlbi Dean fue para mí una actriz emocionante después de verla en Triangle of Sadness”.

“Su trabajo tenía una vulnerabilidad y un intelecto que un actor menor habría negado al personaje”, añadió.

La película es una mordaz sátira social en el que la pareja de modelos y los ultrarricos del crucero ven cómo su estatus se ve socavado por eventos inesperados. Se estrenará en octubre y se espera que esté en la carrera por los Oscar 2023.

Hablando sobre la película antes de que fuera premiada en Cannes en mayo, Dean le dijo a Associated Press: “Para mí, ya gané. Ya estoy en Cannes con la película. Eso es tan increíble. Cualquier cosa es solo una guinda en el punto en el que estoy”.

Nacida y criada en Ciudad del Cabo, Dean se convirtió en modelo infantil, adornando las portadas de las ediciones sudafricanas de GQ y Elle, antes de debutar como actriz en la película Spud de 2010, una adaptación de una popular novela sudafricana que también protagonizó Troye Sivan y John Cleese.

Luego apareció en películas como Death Race 3: Inferno y Blood in the Water, así como en Don’t Sleep y Porthole.

Dean, quien sobrevivió a un accidente automovilístico casi fatal en 2008, estaba comprometida con el modelo Luke Volker, quien publicó desde Cannes que “no podría estar más orgulloso” de ella.
