Un año de cárcel para el hombre que mató al padre de Nicki Minaj

Charles Polevich, el conductor de Nueva York que atropelló y le causó la muerte al padre de la rapera Nicki Minaj, fue sentenciado a un año de prisión, según informaron las autoridades del estado.

El pasado mes de mayo, Polevich, residente de Long Island, se declaró culpable de abandonar el lugar del accidente sin informar sobre el atropello de Robert Maraj, padre de la cantante, y de alterar la evidencia física.

“Dada la gravedad de la conducta del acusado, la NCDA abogó por una sentencia de 1 a 3 años”, dijo el portavoz de la Oficina del Fiscal de Distrito del Condado de Nassau, Brendan Brosh.

“El tribunal no impuso nuestra sentencia recomendada y el acusado fue sentenciado a 1 año de cárcel. Seguimos expresando nuestras condolencias a la familia de Robert Maraj”, añadió.

Además del año de cárcel, el juez Howard Sturim multó a Polevich con $5,000 y suspendió su licencia por seis meses.

Maraj, de 64 años, falleció en febrero de 2021 tras ser atropellado mientras caminaba por Long Island, en la intersección de Rosyln Road y Raff Avenue.

De acuerdo con TMZ, en ese momento la policía informó que el conductor huyó de la escena y trató de esconder el automóvil en un garaje.

Aunque el papá de Nicki Minaj fue trasladado de urgencia a un hospital, se encontraba en estado crítico y murió a causa de las heridas.

“Puedo decir que ha sido la pérdida más devastadora de mi vida”, dijo la cantante en ese entonces en su página web.

Por el momento Nicki Minaj no se ha pronunciado sobre la sentencia.
