El presente del skate: niñas de 13 años, históricas campeonas olímpicas en Tokio

A los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio y a Japón les hacían falta ilusión y aire fresco. Ambas cosas las ha traído el skate, un deporte que en su estreno olímpico ha dejado por ahora dos oros para los anfitriones y el podio más joven nunca visto.

En sus dos primeros días de competición, esta nueva modalidad ha dejado espectáculo, alegrías para un país que hasta ahora vivía atemorizado por el virus y sorpresas como las protagonizadas por dos de las medallistas olímpicas más jóvenes de la historia, la nipona Momiji Nishiya y la brasileña Rayssa Leal, ambas de 13 años.

La exhibición de estas dos adolescentes llega después de que en la víspera el también nipón Yuto Horigome lograra el primer oro olímpico del skate en unos Juegos e hiciera a sus compatriotas celebrar un triunfo en un deporte hasta ahora denostado, tras superar al icono estadounidense Nyjah Huston, entre otros rivales.

Precisión vs. riesgo

Nishiya se coronó como lo hizo su compatriota en la víspera, sin grandes alardes pero ejecutando a la perfección cada uno de sus saltos, giros en el aire y deslizamientos sobre el pasamanos del Parque de Deportes Urbanos de Ariake, una pista que simula un escenario callejero.

Hacer que lo increíblemente complejo parezca fácil. Esa es la virtud de los dos oros nipones, que no arriesgaron tanto en sus maniobras como Funa Nakayama (bronce en la final de este lunes, y de 16 años) o como Leal, quienes podría haber acabado más alto en el podio de no ser por sus caídas in extremis.

Leal deslumbró con la ligereza de sus “grinds” de espaldas sobre el raíl y la suavidad de sus aterrizajes, y Nakayama cuajó un impecable “backside tailside” que le dio la máxima puntuación en un truco en la final, un 5. Pero se impuso Nishiya gracias a la consistencia de sus trucos y de su primera carrera, en la que cada patinador tiene un recorrido libre de 45 segundos.
