Las personas que llevan tatuajes son psicológicamente distintas a las personas que no los llevan

Hasta hace poco, llevar tatuajes en países como España estaba más asociado a una vida licenciosa, incluso pendenciera; de hecho, en países como Japón continúa siendo así. Hoy en día, llevar tatuajes es tan mainstream que no llevarlos incluso pudiera antojarse ligeramenta contestatario.

Sin embargo, según un estudio publicado en 2019, entre las personas que en promedio llevan tatuajes hay unas diferencias psicológicas relevantes.

Cortoplacistas y compulsivos

Quienes llevan tatuajes serían, según diversas mediciones, personas más impulsivas y cortoplacistas que los no tatuados, sobre todo si se trata de tatuajes visibles. Es una decisión que no tiene marcha atrás (al menos fácilmente) y que es de por vida tomada en un momento, situación, pensamiento, deseo dado que cambiarán antes que el tatuaje.

La encuesta y la evidencia experimental documentan, aún hoy, la discriminación contra las personas tatuadas en el mercado laboral y en las transacciones comerciales. Por lo tanto, la decisión de las personas de tatuarse puede reflejar preferencias temporales miopes.

Casi nada amortigua estos resultados, ni el motivo del tatuaje, el tiempo contemplado antes de tatuarse ni el tiempo transcurrido desde el último tatuaje. Incluso la intención expresada de hacerse un tatuaje (otro) predice un aumento de la miopía y ayuda a establecer la dirección de causalidad entre los tatuajes y la miopia

Por supuesto, cabe recalcar que estamos más ante una correlación que ante una causalidad, y que esta correlación es un promedio: naturalmente, habrá personas que llevaran tatuajes que ni son cortoplacistas ni son compulsivos.

Lo que probablemente sí que ocurre con más intensidad son las connotaciones asociadas a llevar tatuaje (en unos países más que otros), como sucede con la fealdad y toda una maraña de factores que discriminan a las personas:
