La NASA reveló nuevas fotos en alta resolución tomadas por el Telescopio James Webb

Después de revelar ayer como anticipo la vista más clara hasta el momento del Universo profundo, el Telescopio Espacial James Webb tiene más para ofrecer en un día calificado como histórico para la humanidad.

En una nueva ola de imágenes se revelarán detalles sobre la atmósfera de un lejano planeta gaseoso, una “guardería estelar” donde se forman estrellas, un “quinteto” de galaxias enfrascadas en una danza de encuentros cercanos y la nube de gas alrededor de una moribunda estrella.

Ayer, Webb reveló la imagen más clara hasta la fecha del universo primitivo, que se remonta a 13 mil millones de años, dijo la NASA el lunes. La impresionante toma, publicada en una sesión informativa en la Casa Blanca por el presidente Joe Biden, está repleta de miles de galaxias y presenta algunos de los objetos más débiles observados.

Conocido como el Primer Campo Profundo de Webb, muestra el cúmulo de galaxias SMACS 0723, que actúa como una lente gravitatoria, desviando la luz de las galaxias más distantes detrás de él hacia el observatorio, en un efecto de aumento cósmico.

Webb también llevó a cabo una espectroscopia, un análisis de la luz que revela información detallada, en un planeta gigante gaseoso llamado WASP-96 b, que fue descubierto en 2014. A casi 1.150 años luz de la Tierra, WASP-96 b tiene aproximadamente la mitad de la masa de Júpiter y gira alrededor de su estrella en solo 3,4 días. Knicole Colón, astrofísica de la misión James Webb de la NASA explicó al mundo la segunda imagen revelada del poderoso telescopio. “Son nubes en otro mundo. El telescopio capturó la firma del agua en el planeta gaseoso gigante WASP 96-b, que orbita una estrella a 1150 años luz de distancia. Por primera vez, hemos detectado evidencia de nubes en la atmósfera de este exoplaneta.

“Esta es solo una porción de datos que el telescopio nos está brindando”, afirmó la científica al explicar la importancia de usar la espectroscopia y cómo podemos usarla para encontrar exoplanetas e incluso observar sus atmósferas.
