Descubren nuevo patógeno trasmitido por ácaros  

Según investigaciones, los artrópodos son los animales más peligrosos, ya que estos transmiten distintas enfermedades infecciosas, según el doctor Thomas Weitzel, lo que antes solo se sabía de Asia, en América Latina era desconocido, sobre que los ácaros pueden transmitir graves enfermedades en los seres humanos.

“Lo que hemos descubierto ahora es que la fiebre rickettsial, el ‘tifus de los matorrales’, también existe en Chile. Sabemos que existe en la isla de Chiloé, pero también en el continente. Hasta ahora hemos diagnosticado 150 casos. Y la distancia entre los casos que hemos encontrado hasta ahora es de 2.000 kilómetros, por así decirlo; empieza en el sur, en Tierra del Fuego, y llega hasta la región del Biobío”, informó el doctor Thomas.

Por otro lado, en América Latina están afectadas por los ácaros y la rickettsiosis; esta es una enfermedad peligrosa, los patógenos se multiplican en las células y desencadenan una vasculitis, provocando inflamación en los vasos que afectan el organismo.

De esta forma, esto provoca en los pacientes fiebre alta, a menudo también una erupción cutánea típica, el exantema, de ahí el nombre de fiebre manchada. En las formas graves, el 30 por ciento de los casos son mortales, según las investigaciones que se llevan a cabo en Chile.
