Estudiantes de la UES sobresalen en investigación de microalgas y microplásticos

Dos estudiantes de la UES demuestran su talento en el área de estudio de microalgas tóxicas marinas y microplásticos

Krissia Sarai Portillo e Ingrid Carolina Argueta, dos destacadas estudiantes de la Licenciatura en Biología de la Universidad de El Salvador (UES), han recibido becas para especializarse en el extranjero en áreas cruciales como microalgas tóxicas marinas y microplásticos.

Ambas jóvenes son egresadas de la carrera y actualmente preparando sus tesis, se desempeñan como pasantes en el Laboratorio de Toxinas Marinas (LABTOX).

En 2023, Portillo viajó a Dinamarca, donde obtuvo una certificación internacional de la Comisión Oceanográfica Intergubernamental de la ONU (IOC-UNESCO).

“Gracias a estos cursos hemos podido profundizar en los conocimientos adquiridos en el laboratorio. La experiencia con expertos internacionales ha fortalecido nuestras bases”, expresó Portillo.

Por otro lado, Ingrid Argueta, quien ha estado colaborando en LABTOX desde 2018, se especializa en microplásticos. Recientemente, viajó a Brasil para participar en el proyecto Regional RLA7025, donde trabajó en la estandarización de métodos de investigación sobre microplásticos en diversos entornos marinos.

“La contaminación por microplásticos es alarmante. Nuestro objetivo es medir su presencia en el agua y sedimentos para abordar sus efectos en la salud”, explicó.

Finalmente, ambas destacan sus conocimientos y el compromiso de la UES con la investigación científica. Su labor no solo aporta a la comunidad académica, sino que también aborda problemas ambientales en el país.
