Incendios forestales en Brasil convierten a São Paulo en la ciudad con la peor calidad de aire del mundo

La ciudad de São Paulo, la metrópoli más grande de Brasil y Sudamérica, enfrenta una crisis ambiental con niveles de contaminación 16,2 veces superiores a los recomendados por la OMS, según lo dio a conocer el Observatorio Internacional de Calidad del Aire (IQAir).

La ciudad de São Paulo, la metrópoli más grande de Brasil y Sudamérica, enfrenta una crisis ambiental con niveles de contaminación 16,2 veces superiores a los recomendados por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), según lo dio a conocer el Observatorio Internacional de Calidad del Aire (IQAir).

Por cuarto día consecutivo, São Paulo se ha mantenido como la ciudad con la peor calidad de aire del mundo, registrando un índice AQI (Índice de Calidad del Aire) de 169, clasificado como altamente insalubre.

La densa nube de humo y ceniza que cubre São Paulo, una ciudad de 12 millones de habitantes, proviene principalmente de quemas en plantaciones de caña de azúcar en el interior del estado y de incendios en la Amazonía y el Pantanal. A esto se suma el tráfico de más de 7 millones de autos, lo que empeora aún más la calidad del aire.

Además, otras ciudades brasileñas, como Campinas, Curitiba, Río Branco y Porto Velho, también registraron niveles insalubres de calidad del aire.

Ante esta crisis, la alcaldía de São Paulo anunció la creación de un comité de crisis para gestionar el cuidado de la población, con prioridad en la atención a los ancianos. También se asignarán fondos para la compra de humidificadores y purificadores de aire en escuelas de zonas con baja humedad, y se intensificará la distribución de agua potable.

Asimismo, emitió una advertencia sobre una ola de calor que llegará a los 32°C, con niveles de humedad inferiores al 30%, lo que empeora aún más las condiciones ambientales en la ciudad.
