Una treintena de embajadores de buena voluntad de Unicef, entre ellos el piloto de Fórmula 1 Fernando Alonso, el ex jugador de fútbol David Beckham y la cantante Billie Eilish, pidieron a los dirigentes de los países del G7 que donen vacunas contra el coronavirus a los países más pobres.
“El mundo ha estado un año y medio luchando contra la pandemia de COVID-19, pero el virus aún se está propagando en muchos países y produciendo nuevas variantes con el potencial de que todos volvamos al punto de partida”, sostiene una carta firmada por 28 personalidades de diferentes disciplinas artísticas y deportivas.
Los 28 firmantes son Ramla Ali, Fernando Alonso, David Beckham, Orlando Bloom, José Manuel Calderón, Sofia Carson, Gemma Chan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Olivia Colman, Billie Eilish, Pau Gasol, Whoopi Goldberg, David Harewood, Chris Hoy, Angelique Kidjo, Téa Leoni, Lucy Liu, Juan Manuel López Iturriaga, Ewan McGregor, Alyssa Milano, Andy Murray, Liam Neeson, Liam Payne, Katy Perry, Sergio Ramos, Claudia Schiffer, Teresa Viejo y Pink.
Todos ellos instan a los jefes de Estado de los países del G7, que se reunirán entre el 11 y el 13 de junio en Cornualles (Reino Unido), a garantizar un “suministro justo y equitativo” de las vacunas a los países de ingresos bajos y medios.
El encuentro del G7 juntará a los mandatarios de Estados Unidos, Reino Unido, Francia, Alemania, Italia, Canadá y Japón, y facilitará reuniones bilaterales como la que está programada entre el presidente francés, Emmanuel Macron, y su homólogo estadounidense, Joe Biden.
“La pandemia no se terminará en ninguna parte hasta que haya terminado en todas partes, y eso significa llevar las vacunas a todos los países, de la manera más rápida y equitativa posible. La Cumbre del G7 de este fin de semana es una oportunidad vital para que ustedes acuerden las acciones que lleven las vacunas adonde más se necesitan y rápidamente”, afirma el documento.
