Nuevo golpe a Trump en casos de migrantes

Una jueza federal de Estados Unidos rechazó este lunes un recurso del Gobierno del presidente Donald Trump que buscaba que se desestime una demanda contra el fin de las protecciones temporales para inmigrantes de Honduras, Haití y El Salvador, que sostiene que la medida tuvo motivaciones raciales.

La jueza de distrito Denise Casper en Boston decidió que un grupo de inmigrantes y dos organizaciones sin fines de lucro pueden proceder con una demanda que impugna la decisión del Gobierno de poner fin a los estatus de protección que beneficiaban a miles de personas de esos tres países.

La demanda cita declaraciones que, según dijo, muestran la “aversión y menosprecio del presidente Donald Trump por los inmigrantes latinos y negros”. Las declaraciones más recientes citadas son de enero, cuando el republicano dijo que los inmigrantes de África y Haití provienen de “países de mierda”.

El Departamento de Justicia de Estados Unidos, que representó al Gobierno de Trump en la corte, no hizo comentarios de inmediato.

El estatus de protección temporal (TPS, por su sigla en inglés) ampara de la deportación a inmigrantes que ya se encuentran en Estados Unidos, incluidos aquellos que ingresaron ilegalmente, y que proceden de países afectados por desastres naturales, conflictos civiles y otros problemas.

El Gobierno estadunidense, bajo la secretaria de Seguridad Nacional Kirstjen Nielsen, ha buscado revocar este estatus especial y expulsar a decenas de miles de inmigrantes protegidos.

Las acciones se conocen medio de una ofensiva contra la inmigración legal e ilegal por parte del Gobierno de Trump, quien ha prometido fortalecer las fronteras de su país y construir un muro a lo largo del límite entre Estados Unidos y México.
